Working long hours goes with the territory if you are small business owner. This of course is no surprise to any small business owner, but now it has been “officially” confirmed by the Discover Small Business Watch index. According to the monthly index, more than 30% of small-business owners report working an average of at least 10 hours a day, compared to 19% of the general population.
Nearly half of small-business owners also say they work on holidays, and 15% show up seven days a week. That’s more than twice the number of non-business owners.
And, what small business owner truly knows the meaning of a “day off”. Almost 60% define a “day off” as being available for calls and e-mail, working for a few hours or working all day at a remote location. That’s compared with 32% of the general population.
