South Dakota, Nevada, and Wyoming are the nation’s most entrepreneur-friendly states, according to the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council.
The least friendly are California, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia, based on the Washington-based advocacy group’s annual ranking of state public policy climates for entrepreneurs, small-business owners, and investors. Source: Inc.
My experience consist of doing business in Nevada and California. And there is really big difference. Just the amount of paperwork and all kinds of government forms is much bigger and more complicated in California.
But does it mean that it is the best to move your business to some other state? Doing business is not only about the hassle with bureaucracy. It is about being close to your customers. I bet most of the businesses in “un-friendly” states might be doing much better than businesses in the most friendly states.
