Fortune Magazine recently released their 2005 list of States which have the most Fortune 1000 Companies. The top three states, with over one-third of America’s largest corporations, include California, Texas and New York.
California tops the list as home to 110 Fortune 1000 companies including Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Sun, Cisco, Oracle Apple, and Walt Disney. Oil giants ChevronTexaco, Calpine, and Occidental Petroleum are among 94 of the Fortune 1000 companies that call Texas home. And, 90 companies, including Citigroup, J.P. Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, American Express, Time Warner, and Viacom prefer the east coast business climate of New York.
There are, however, a few states still waiting to secure their first Fortune 1000 company including Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Mississippi, Vermont, and Alaska.
