Packaging in its initial days was perceived as something needed for securing and storing the goods till the time the buyer reaches home. But no longer now – packaging is treated as a part of the product offering. Here are some tips that may prove to be helpful –
1. Know your customer – try not to offer the same packaging to all the customers. Different people have different liking – offer more variants of packaging to these various target segments.
2. Know the use of the product – try to understand the use of products in terms of its timing, frequency, duration, etc. Toothpaste may be used over the month while it is not true for a food packet.
3. Packaging size – always move with the trend. Few years back, the trend was to buy large size packaging. This is changing to small sizes, convenience becoming more important. Keep on eye on the trends.
4. Innovative packaging – while innovative packaging doesn’t make any difference to the product stored inside, it makes lot of difference to consumer behavior – your customers are likely to be more interested in a new packaging.
